Diabetic Menu

It’s not because you are diagnosed with diabetes, that you can’t have scrumptious meals. However, you are required to stick to a very strict diabetes diet with the only acceptable foods include fruits and vegetables. If you want to make your diabetic menu a little bit more exciting and tastier you can follow the suggestions presented here.

1. Two things you should include in your diabetic menu are fruits and vegetables, but they don’t have to be the only component of your diet. It does mean that you should dedicate a large part of your food to them. Start off by including vegetables and fruits that have a high amount of fiber but are low in starch, i.e. spinach. Besides, you can never have too much fiber in your menu.

2. You should keep your diet as natural as possible. Try to have a lot of whole grains sources instead of processed foods. In fact, the main component of any diabetic menu should be grains. If you can, you should choose to eat whole wheat products and brown rice instead of the standard white rice.

3. It’s advisable to have a diabetic menu with frequent small meals instead of three larger meals during the day. If you have meals at regular intervals you will keep your metabolism working properly and it will prevent you body from storing the excess fats.

4. Avoid to have too much dairy products. In a diabetic menu you will definitely go for non-fat dairy products like non-fat yoghurt or skimmed milk. If you really don’t like the non-fat, at least use the low ones instead.

5. When you feel thirsty you should drink plenty of water. Regular soft drinks and diet versions should be avoided. They aren’t different at all, only the packaging is. They both contain sugar, the diet version is only lower in calories. Water should be your first thirst quencher.

6. You still can have sweets, but you have to limit them. Everybody loves to eat cookies and desserts, but eating too much of them fires up your blood glucose levels. Only a fraction of this food should be in your diabetic diet menu. You can have them maybe once a week, and if you can’t stay off the sweets substitute it with fruits.

Try to make these tips a part of your daily life as much as possible. Maybe you will need to sacrifice a thing or two, but it’s all worth it. A diabetic menu that focuses on proper food choices and right proportion is the most beneficial of all diet types.
